Billing
I don't receive a bill from ISD. How am I charged for my sewer service?
Unlike many public utilities, Ironhouse Sanitary District assesses its customers annually through property tax bills. The fee you pay is determined by the type of property you own. For a typical single-family residence, the monthly charge (as of 2006-07) is $42.50, or $510 per year.
How does ISD determine sewer charges?
The district's sewer service charges are designed to recover the cost of service based on long-term operating and capital funding requirements. The district bills residential customers a flat annual rate per dwelling unit and collects the sewer service charge on the property tax bill. Non-residential customers are billed based on the number of equivalent service units (ESU's) assigned to each customer. An ESU represents the wastewater discharge from a typical residential dwelling unit. The District assigns ESU's to non-resident customers based on estimated volume and strength of each customer's wastewater discharge in relation to that of a typical residence. To see how ratepayers' tax dollars are being spent, ISD has provided a copy of the annual budget for ratepayers to view.
What if I have questions on my ISD rate on my tax bill?
Members of the ISD staff are always available to answer questions about ISD rates. Simply contact the district by phone, e-mail or postal service mail at any time.

Routine maintenance
I've noticed a potential problem with one of ISD's sewer lines. Who should I call?
Like everything, sewer lines require regular maintenance. ISD strives to prevent problems before they occur, but if you think you have spotted something we might have overlooked you may call our office at 925-625-2279 during business hours. Someone will attend to the situation.
Emergency situation
There is an emergency involving ISD's pipeline or property. Who should I call?

Septic systems
I own a septic tank, but I've noticed that recently a new subdivision went up in my area and I am wondering if now I can connect to ISD's sewer line?
With the pace of development in our service area it is possible that you may be able to connect with ISD as our trunk line is extended to accommodate the growth. If you are eligible you must pay a one-time hook-up fee of $4,946.30 in addition to the annual fee of $510 assessed on your property tax statement.
Hunting and fishing
I understand that pheasant hunting and fishing are allowed on ISD property. Is this true?
Yes. Game sports are allowed on Jersey Island by permit. You can obtain an application and specific details on this site, or stop by our office.
